Surgical technologists must be knowledgeable in asepsis and sterile technique and must be able to properly care for instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Surgical case management wound care and closure, and surgical patient care and safety all fall within the realm of the surgical technologist’s responsibilities The Surgical Technology program prepares students for employment as entry surgical technologists. We offer a 63-credit Associate of Applied Science degree that takes approximately two academic years of full-time enrollment to complete. Students enrolled in our full-major Surgical Technology program complete clinical alongside working professionals in local hospitals and surgery centers. -

Graduates must take and pass a national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. -

Successful completion of the program allows graduates to take the national certification examination to become a certified surgical technologist (CST). Students may request consideration for advanced placement by submitting an official transcript of coursework. This program does not offer credit for experiential learning. Choose from an Associate of Applied Science, typically a 2-year program or a Technical Certificate, which is usually completed in a year or less. Click the links below for course information, costs, average earning, placement rates, and additional program information. As a condition of participation in SGT119 Clinical I, SGT129 Clinical II, SGT130 Clinical III, students do not receive any compensation from WSU Tech or the clinical affiliate. Students assist physicians during surgical procedures, but at no time are they substituted for health care facility staff members. -

The program trains individuals for employment as a general sonographer or ultrasound tech. The program is designed for individuals who already have training and experience providing direct care to patients. Sonography, or ultrasound, is an imaging specialty that uses sound waves. Sonographers operate specialized equipment that transmits high-frequency sound waves into a patient's body. Structures within the body reflect the sound to form cross-sectional images. These images are interpreted by physicians, most commonly radiologists. Sonographers work in a variety of medical settings from doctor offices to large medical centers. -
