Description of verification and evaluation criteria

Applicants are admitted by their scores in the entrance procedure, which is completely performed in the English language. The entrance examination takes place either in Prague at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University on the set date of the entrance examination, or between 1st January 2022 and 30th June 2022 at the co-operating agencies abroad. The entrance examination consists of two rounds.

The first round of the entrance examination:

knowledge testing with multiple-choice questions.

The knowledge testing will be done in person (or eventually online). Each applicant can sit the knowledge tests only once.

Evaluation of the knowledge tests with multiple-choice questions: The applicant will receive one point for each correct answer. The knowledge testing is composed of 3 parts – tests of secondary school Biology, Chemistry and Physics (100 answers and maximum score 100 points for each test), so the maximum total 300 points for all three tests. For wrong answers, points are not subtracted. Calculators or other “smart devices” are not allowed.

The minimum total score in the paper knowledge tests that are required to advance to the 2nd round is set at 180 points. An applicant who achieved less than the minimum of 180 points does not advance to the 2nd round and his/her entrance examination is ended.

The 2nd round of the entrance examination:

Interview = 4 stands for mini-interviews: At each stand, a maximum of 10 points can be gained (so the maximum total score is 40 points). 1. The mini-interviews (MMI) may include Role-playing (e.g. breaking bad news); Motivation and interest in medicine; Medical ethics; View of health care; Communication skills; Teamwork; Interpretation and calculation of data; Personal qualities; other.

Motivation letter (maximum score 10 points) – an obligatory attachment to the application – the applicants describe their motivation to study in the field of General medicine at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, their successes, knowledge and experience in a medical environment.

Applicants that advance to the 2nd round have to collect at least 35 points out of the maximum of 50 points in the 2nd round (maximum score 40 points for the interviews plus 10 points for the motivation letter). Only the points obtained in the 2nd round decide who is admitted to the study, i.e. points collected in the 1st and 2nd round are not added up.

The 2nd round of entrance examinations will be done in person (or eventually online).

Depending on the current epidemiologic situation and the place where the knowledge testing and/or interview takes place, the Faculty can change the present form of examination to the online form. In case of such a change, the applicants will be informed at least 15-days before the date of the exam.

In the 2nd round, 50 points bonus can be awarded to an applicant who successfully passed the knowledge tests in the 1st round of the entrance examination and collected 270 or more points out of the total of 300 points. Applicants that will be entitled to the bonus points thanks to the results of the 1st round will not have to apply for the bonus: it will be automatically granted by the Faculty. By being granted the bonus, the applicant has passed the threshold value of points required for admission and will not take part in the 2nd round.

In addition to passing the entrance examination, proof of finished secondary education that entitles the applicant to study at a university in the chosen field of study in the country where he/she completed the secondary school is required for admission to the study. If the Faculty is to assess the applicants' education, the applicant must pay the fee for assessment of his/her education and submit the legalized documents proving the finished secondary education to the Faculty not later than 31st August 2022. Admission to Master's studies is conditioned by completed secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate. Admission to Post-Bachelor studies (Master's programme) is likewise conditioned by completed education in any type of study program.

Different admission requirements in accordance with Section 49 (3).

The first round of the entrance examination does not need not be undergone by applicants who meet the following conditions:

completed a master study program in General medicine or Dentistry at a university in the Czech Republic or an equivalent study programme abroad;

duly submitted the application and paid the application fee;

by 30th April 2022 at the latest will have submitted the application for the bonus granted for advance to the 2nd round, a legally attested copy of the proof (diploma) of education mentioned above in inset (a) and the list of the passed study obligations with the stamp of the university which the applicant graduated from unless the list of the passed study obligations is part of the supplement to the diploma, all documents in paper form, to the Foreign Student Affairs Department, Kateřinská 32, 121 08 Praha 2.

An applicant who meets the conditions (a), (b) and (c) will be granted 180 bonus points and will advance to the 2nd round without passing the knowledge testing. Such an applicant must pass the 2nd round and the same criteria of admission will apply to him/her as to the other applicants.
