Introduction
MSc One Health (Infectious Diseases)
Plans for this new MSc presented here are proposals pending final approval of content and structure, expected to be confirmed in spring 2013 ahead of the first intake of students in September 2013.
Why an RVC Masters/Diploma?
Emerging diseases of animals and humans have highlighted the threat from changing environmental, ecological, social and agricultural conditions. Significant amongst these are infectious diseases such as highly pathogenic influenza virus H5N1 (bird flu), pandemic human influenza H1N1 (swine flu), Ebola and Nipah Virus and SARS coronavirus.
Our unique Master's level course delivered jointly by the RVC and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine will be available through both full and part-time study as MSc and diploma. It addresses a broad range of topics under the One Health paradigm.
The programme modules include: Integrating One Health, Fundamentals of Infectious Disease, Disease Emergence, Statistics Monitoring and Surveillance, Disease Control in Developing Countries, One Health Economics, Ecological Epidemiology and Social Drivers of Disease.
Graduates from this programme will have the knowledge and skills provided by experienced scientists in order to be able to respond rapidly and effectively to outbreaks of disease as well as controlling endemic disease at the interface between humans, animals, and the environment.
The course will benefit those interested in One Health and disease control, particularly in the developing world.
Applications are welcome from individuals with a background in public health, veterinary sciences, biological sciences, social and environmental sciences, ecology and wildlife health.
